Escalators and moving walkways are usually found in areas with high public traffic (e.g., airports, shopping malls, stores, metro stations).
Initial and periodic inspections are mandatory under current Greek legislation (FEK 765/B/2013) and the requirements of standard ELOT EN 115-1.
Initial Inspection of Escalators and Moving Walkways
The initial inspection is the first technical inspection and is carried out before the escalators/moving walkways are put into operation. It is called Type A1 Inspection and is carried out under the responsibility of the owner/operator of the installation, and the presence of the installer is mandatory during the inspection.
Existing escalator and moving walkway installations that were in operation before the entry into force of FEK 765/B/03/04/2013 are subject to mandatory initial Type A1 Inspection.
Periodic Inspection of Escalators and Moving Walkways
All escalator and moving walkway installations are subject to a periodic Type B Inspection every year. The periodic Type B inspection is also carried out under the responsibility of the owner/operator of the installation. The presence of the responsible maintenance technician is mandatory during the inspection.
