Alternative fuel stations, such as CNG and LNG, are a key pillar of the transition to cleaner forms of energy and sustainable transport.
Each type of stations serves different energy needs, but all are governed by strict technical and regulatory requirements for safety, functionality, and compliance with international and national standards.
Ergocert provides inspection and certification services for CNG - LNG stations, thus contributing to the protection of human resources, the environment, and consumers.
Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations include compression, storage, and refueling stations equipped with safety, fire detection, and leak detection mechanisms.
CNG Legislative Framework
- EN ISO 16923 Standard
- PED Directive 2014/68/EU for pressure equipment
- ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU for explosive atmospheres and electrical equipment
- MID Directive 2014/32/EU for the accuracy of measuring instruments
Inspection & Certification of CNG Stations
Ergocert's inspection and certification services for CNG stations include:
- Review of technical documentation and safety studies for the station
- Inspection of the construction of tanks, pipes, pumps, and high/medium/low pressure equipment
- Verification of compliance with marking requirements, protective measures and electrical installations (ATEX)
- Functional tests, measurements, and verification of precision instruments in accordance with the relevant directives (PED, MID) and applicable national regulatory frameworks
Initial Certification or Conversion of Existing CNG Stations
In particular, in the case of a new CNG station, we provide Initial Construction Certification in accordance with the PED Directive.
Similarly, in the case of conversion or modification of an existing CNG station, we provide conversion certification in accordance with the PED Directive and/or a Certificate of Safe and Proper Operation of the station.
Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) stations include cryogenic tanks, regasification and refueling systems, requiring strict thermal and operational safety measures.
LNG Legislative Framework
The inspection and certification requirements for LNG stations are defined by national legislation (FEK 3148/2023) and the following directives and standards:
- EN ISO 16924 standard: LNG refueling stations
- PED Directive 2014/68/EU: Pressure equipment
- ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU: Explosive atmospheres
- ADR Regulations: Transport of dangerous goods, including LNG
Inspection & Certification of LNG Stations
Ergocert's inspection and certification services for LNG stations include:
- Review of technical files and safety studies for gasification and refueling facilities
- Inspection of the construction of storage tanks, piping, valves, pumps, and other pressure equipment
- Verification of compliance with marking requirements, protective measures, and electrical installations in explosive atmospheres (ATEX)
- Functional tests, measurements, and instrument checks in accordance with the requirements of EN ISO 16924, the PED Directive, and ADR Regulations
Initial Certification - Final Certificate or Conversion of Existing LNG Stations
In particular, in the case of a new LNG station, we provide Initial Construction Certification in accordance with the PED Directive and/or issue a Final Certificate in accordance with the requirements of FEK 3148/2023.
Similarly, in the case of conversion or modification of an existing LNG station, we provide conversion certification in accordance with the PED Directive and/or a Certificate of Safe and Proper Operation of the station.
