Valves and safety valves are covered by an extensive regulatory framework that ensures their safe and reliable operation. For example, the international standards API 576 for the inspection of safety valves and ISO 4126-1 for overpressure protection devices, as well as API 598 for the inspection and testing of valves, are applied.
At the European and national legislative level, valves & relief / safety valves are subject to the requirements of the PED 2014/68/EU directive on pressure equipment, as well as the ATEX 2014/34/EU directive on equipment in explosive atmospheres.
