Certification Scheme Description
PED welder certification concerns the assessment of welders' competence for tasks such as manual permanent welding, mechanized welding, or welding with automatic machines, as required to be performed within the framework of pressure equipment manufacturing in accordance with Directive 2014/68/EU.
The relevant welding procedures are described in European standards EN ISO 9606-1 and EN ISO 9606-2, as well as in the American code ASME IX.
Prerequisites for the Exam
Individuals who meet one of the following requirements can participate in the PED Welder Certification examination process:
- At least one (1) year of work experience as a person performing welding tasks (relevant declaration under Law N.1599/1986 or certificate from current/previous employers)
- Valid Welder's License and/or Oxy-Acetylene Welder's License, Class A or B, or Certificate of Notification of Commencement of Welder's and/or Oxy-Acetylene Welder's Professional Activity
Examination Procedure
The examination mechanism consists of a Theoretical Examination (Multiple Choice Test) and a Practical Examination (Sample Welding). The passing grade is 60% on the theory test, while the practical test is a binary outcome (pass/fail).
The participant is required to carry with them a valid means of identification and is responsible for having the necessary personal protective equipment.
Examination Results - Certificate
After successfully completing the theoretical and practical parts of their examination, the candidate receives the PED Welder Certificate from Ergocert. The certificate is valid for 3 years.
